Undoubtedly one of the most important elements of music is rhythm. Any error on the part of the other instruments will be considered as keeping the ‘evil eye’ away from the performance but the rhythm player’s mistake will disrupt the whole group. For then; time will also have been disrupted. Music will fall into a vacuum with no time, it will be lost...

And is this all? It is obvious that the heart beats with a rhythm and that any anomaly in the rhythm of the heartbeat is one of the greatest catastrophes to befall the heart. The heart is the metronome of the body and, while breathing in and out, walking, talking, the body has a rhythmic balance that is loyal to its metronome. From the formation of the universe to the movements of the living upon the earth, from the flight of the seagull to the small red fish swimming; rhythm and balance are the most important elements of life...

Rhythm and balance are also at the basis of dance and sports. An individual who has not enlivened their sense of rhythm can neither ask their lover to dance nor can properly hit a ball flowing towards them. But there is no need for fear! Because there is no human being without a sense of rhythm. There is only a ‘rhythm paralysis’ or a ‘rhythmic defect’ and both are curable.

With the mystical affectivities its possesses, rhythm is also the most joyous path to take in the journey towards our inner world. Our happiness, our grief, our enthusiasm and anger are voiced with all sincerity in the goblet drum.

You can experience an insatiable content as well as a restless enthusiasm while beating the rhythms. Because the rhythm penetrates directly into the heart, it functions like our heart.

Rhythm is a grand festivity. We become so alienated from the noise, dust, dirt, stress, worry and anxieties of the city in the Galata Rhythm House that all of a sudden we find ourselves in the Sinai Desert where Master Mısırlı Ahmet has rediscovered himself or in the rainforests of Brazil or at the peaks of the Taurus Mountains. We grasp the spiritual, not the physical, dimension of going away. While pyhsical fatigue disappears with 5 hours of sleep, overcoming mental fatigue can only be possible by keeping our hearts merry, by “touching ourselves” light heartedly without any cares in relation to tomorrows. A daring improvisation we play slipping away from all prejudices, daily bustles, life’s burdens without any fear of falling into emptiness will provide an unequalled therapy for self-discovery and self-confrontation.

The Galata Rhythm House is ready to receive everybody wanting to set out on a journey into the world of rhythm full of mysteries and discover their own inner world. The Galata Rhythm House will be a cure not only for those keen on playing rhythm but also for those feeling the positive role that rhythm plays in the multi-directional flow of life and for those wanting to learn the personal secrets of peace and getting enjoyment out of life.
